Jessica F Comte goes to Sälen

This year GirlieCamps' campers will meet Jessica during the Sälen camp. We took the opportunity to get a word with Jessica.

It was the big snowboard guru Ingmar Backman that inspired Jessica F Comte to start riding. Seeing him ride made Jessica force her mom to buy a snowboard and not long after hitting the slopes she was hooked.

Jessica F Comte moved to Sweden from Paris, France, about 13 years ago. Back then she had never thought about snowboarding in any way, but it didn't take long until her passion for the sport was awakened. After test riding the tiny slopes in Stockholm she applied for snowboarding school in the little village of Tärnaby far north in Sweden. Now she can't see her life without snowboarding.

- For me it is such a joy to just ride and have fun in the slopes. I love snowboarding and there's nothing else I could see myself doing, she says.

After finishing school in Tärnaby Jessica moved to Sälen. She wanted to take her riding even further and heard that Sälen had something remarkable.

- Well, my friends and I heard that in Sälen they shaped the park and pipe every day which back then was unbelievable so that's basically why I moved there.

In Sälen Jessica mainly focused on slope style, but she wanted to be an all round rider. So she and a bunch of other girls went back to Jessica's native country France and there she took her pipe skills to the next level.

- I've never wanted to be one or the other so I try my hardest to be just as good at pipe as in slope style, she says.

Last year Jessica coached another Girliecamp and she looks back at it with happy memories.

- When snowboarding as much as I do, not everyday is a good day. Sometimes the weather and conditions are not the best, but when you ride together with a lot of other girls you build up so much positive energy so nothing else matters. All you feel is the joy of riding together and I become even more exited about riding.

Jessica has snowboarded for years now and knows how important it is to take care of the body so that you can get better when riding.

- I would recommend all the girls coming to our camps to exercise a bit before going. Just run a little or go to the gym and don't forget to eat right. Remember to always have a good breakfast and proper meals during the day.

The next camp in Sälen is in a few days and Jessica has some hopes for this year's camp.

- I hope that it will be good conditions with lot's of sun and soft slopes, but I mainly hope that all the girls coming are just as stoked about this as I am and that we all have a lot of fun together.
